Thanksgiving Day is celebrated annually as a national holiday in the North American continent on the fourth Thursday of November. The day is meant to celebrate the harvest season and other blessings of the year gone by. And the day after is also known as Black Friday.

In some cities and towns, there are parades during the Thanksgiving weekend. In most areas, these festivities also mark the opening of the Christmas shopping season.

The American holiday is particularly rich in legend and symbolism, and the traditional fare of the Thanksgiving meal typically includes roast turkey, bread stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, cranberries, gravy, and pumpkin pie. With respect to vehicular travel, the holiday is often the busiest of the year, as family members gather with one another. 

Today, there is such a large variety of food to choose from for Thanksgiving Dinner, but turkey is the traditional main course. Of course, you can choose goose, duck, ham, or even seafood.

Another modern staple for Thanksgiving is pumpkin pie. Moreover, sweet potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce and other goodies make their way to the Thanksgiving dinner table.

The key to a Thanksgiving menu is to choose foods that will represent the idea of giving thanks for life and the joy of sharing with friends and family.


There is always a parade on Thanksgiving Day. Such parades lift the spirits of the spectators and provide them with wholesome entertainment. Nowadays, the Thanksgiving parades are accompanied with musical shows and celebrities.

Watching the Thanksgiving Day American football game is a popular tradition in the United States. In fact, some of the most memorable games were played during the Thanksgiving holiday.


For hundreds of years, Thanksgiving has held a special meaning across many cultures in many corners of the world. Although giving gifts at Thanksgiving is not as popular as Christmas, gift giving at this time could actually be appreciated more since it is more likely to be unexpected.
